Overview

The Pledge Challenge is an opportunity for our paddlers and the general public to raise funds for local charities. Money is raised on behalf of the Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation and then dispersed to selected charities.  Charities are chosen every few years by the Foundation Board of Directors.  We invite all charities to apply in the summer of 2014, when new recipient charities will be selected.

Paddlers raise pledges by asking friends, family and co-workers for donations.  Many teams also hold events throughout the year.  Teams have held pub nights, bake sales, dinner parties and garage sales to raise money for local charities.

In 2013, the Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation will support seven charities.  The following charities will benefit from paddlers' fund raising during the 2013 season:

TIER ONE - $50,000 per year minimum

• Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa Charitable Foundation

TIER TWO - $30,000 per year minimum

• ArtsSmarts
• Bruyère Foundation
• CHEO Foundation

TIER THREE - $20,000 per year minimum

• Debra Dynes Family House
• Ottawa Humane Society
• University of Ottawa Institute of Mental Health Research
