Who does the Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation benefit?

The funds raised from the 2012 Pledge Challenge through the Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation supports seven local charities. For a complete list of charities click here. Participation in the Pledge Challenge is voluntary, but teams are encouraged to take part in this fun, team-building means of giving back to the community.

Do I have to raise money?

No, participating in the Pledge Challenge is completely optional although we encourage as many participants as possible.  We suggest that each paddler do their best to pledge $50.  Such a small amount can do so much!

What do I get in return?

Prizes are awarded to all individuals who raise $250 or more. Those who raise $100-$249 will be entered in a draw for prizes. The more money you raise, the greater the potential prize.  Plus you get the good feeling of knowing that you are helping to improve the lives of others in your community, and isn’t that the real prize?

How much has been raised in the past?

To date over $2.4 million has been raised through the annual Pledge Challenge and those funds have benefited over 28 charities.

Can I pledge myself?

Of course! In fact it’s highly recommended that you make a pledge under your own name to demonstrate to your potential donors that you are dedicated to the challenge.

Who is eligible for a tax receipt?

Anyone who donates $20 or more online will be automatically issued a receipt by e-mail. Those individuals donating on the pledge form must include a complete mailing address AND donate more than $20 to automatically be issued a receipt. Lesser amounts will be issued a receipt upon request.

When and where do I hand in my collected pledges?

We encourage paddlers to use our online donation system.  Alternatively, pledges can be handed in during the Festival at the Collins Barrow Pledge Tent. The hours of operation for the tent will be posted closer to the time of the Festival.

Can you give me any strategies for raising pledges?

Yes, the Pledge Resource Materials provide basic information and fundraising strategies. A 2012 version will be updated soon.
